On
my way to Art Education 2520 I walk from my last class that is on Neil and in between
11th and 10th street. On this day it was very rainy out.
I started by opening my umbrella as I head toward 11th street. I
know its 11th street because I can here the crosswalk telling me to
walk, which makes me look up and see the 11th street sign. As I walk
I can feel, hear, and see raindrops hit my umbrella and dripping on to my
shoes. I smell old food as I look up I see dumpsters. After seeing the
dumpsters these yellow polls catch my eye. I now know I’m half way to class. As I hear the cross walk telling me to stop my
mind thinks back the first cross walk and I remember the red telephone booth I
space every day and the poster inside of it that makes my laugh. Before I know
it my head is up and looking for the number 24. Once I see 24 above a gate, I
know I am close to the stadium door I use. I see the sign for art education
classes on the glass door. Reaching to open the door I see that my arm has raindrops
all over it. I can’t feel the raindrops because my jacket is hydrophobic and
repels water.
This map is different from the map you would find on MapQuest
or Google maps because I use my five senses to direct me where to go. Because I am hold an umbrella it cuts of my
vision for street signs and also my peripheral vision. The reason why I see the
street sign is because I hear the crosswalk talking. The reason I see the
dumpsters is because the way it smells. I know what door to use when I see the
number 24 (gate 24 to the stadium). Then there is the sign on the door
reminding me that I am headed in the right direction. Also as I hold my
umbrella I see my shoes and jacket getting more wet that tells me that I have
been walking for a long time and am getting close. Lastly I have a taste in my
mouth that the rain gives off. It reminds me of spring and my mouth isn’t dry
like the cold snow days before. This is how I use my five senses to get to
class.
