Wexner Center of the
Arts
On Friday February 8th I went to the Wexner Center
of the Arts. The first exhibit I saw was The Clock by Christian Marclay. The Clock was a film of all different movie
clips, maybe show clips as well, and the film is set up so that it can be
played for 24 hours and is timed with the current time. I thought this was very
neat! Every time you saw the time in a movie it was the current time (same
time) as when we were watching it. As I watched The Clock I thought of how hard
and how much time it actually took to create this artwork. Another piece of art
I found neat was where a projector projected on to a mirror and then the mirror
projected the film onto projection board. Who one thinks to put the mirror in a
certain way so that you can see the film from so many different points of views
was very cool. My favorite artwork was photograph. It is a bunch of photographs
that were set up like a zigzag. Four photos would make a W. This pattern
continued for about 30 photos. As you walked down to see each photo it felt
like you were walking down a street looking at a bunch of houses and people
outside their homes. It looked like one big Polaroid, although it wasn’t. You
could tell the photographer took each picture separately and made it flow
together.
What I found difficult to understand at the Wexner was some
photographs. What made it a good photograph? There was a picture of a pop can
on rocks. I didn’t see what made that special. There was a photo of a girl
smiling and answering the phone in an office. I didn’t see what made that a
good photo. To me it looked like a bad old advertisement photo kind of cheesy.
As I walked through the exhibit I wished that some of the artwork had
explanations to it. Kind of like how in high school we had to write a paper
explaining our artwork I wish professional had to do the same thing.
Cardiff and Miller
In this article I found it interesting about how it was a
couple making art together. I liked how they met and how they got married. In
the article they say that they found that they could do things different that
when they were alone. They also say how their artwork and their lives have
always been connected. I liked that a lot.
I also like that they didn’t
sell their artwork the Dark Pool because it meant so much to the both of them. So
things are just not replaceable and that is one of them to the couple.
I didn’t really find anything problematic with this article.
If I had to give constructive criticism I would say I wished there was some pictures
in this article of the artwork they spoke about. I was trying to picture a lot of
it but would like to actually see what they we talking about such as the Dark
Pool.
